Present simple dictation asks you to hear who does the action and choose the matching verb form. With I, we, and they, listen for the base verb. With he or she, listen for the final sound in walks, reads, washes, or studies. Short endings can disappear when you focus only on the main meaning.
The check I use is simple: find the subject first, then listen for does, doesn't, or the end of the main verb. After does or doesn't, the main verb returns to its base form. Punctuation is not scored.
