Wh-Questions Dictation: Everyday Information Questions

In everyday speech the question word carries most of the meaning, and the auxiliary after it is short and easy to miss. Listen for the question word first: what, where, when, who, why or how. Then listen for do, does or did, and for the subject that follows the auxiliary.

One pattern breaks the rule. When who is the subject of the question, there is no auxiliary at all, so you hear Who called you? and not Who did call you?. Type the words you hear; question marks and capital letters are not scored, and the main verb after do, does and did never takes -s or -ed.
