Already, Yet & Still - Hard Exercises
B2 Level
English Exercises is teacher-led by Charlie. About the teacher · How content is made
Already is not limited to present perfect. With state verbs and informal past simple clauses, it can come before the main verb: "I already know" or "She already told us." In harder contexts, the choice depends on whether the sentence highlights unexpectedly early action, continued belief or activity, or an expected result that remains incomplete. Formal reports, policies, research, and workplace deadlines often use these patterns precisely because they show whether a result is complete, delayed, or still unresolved.
Quick Rule
subject + already + state/past simple verb | subject + have/has + already + past participle | subject + still + main verb | subject + still + have/has not + past participle | subject + have/has + yet + to + base verb
- 1.I already have a reservation for tonight.
- 2.She has already published two papers this term.
- 3.The committee still maintains its original position.
- 4.The council still has not introduced a clear policy.
- 5.Our proposal has yet to be approved.
