Linking Words Dictation: Contrast and Result

Contrast and result connectors show whether two ideas are different or whether one idea follows from another. This B2 dictation trains you to hear linkers such as although, however, nevertheless, whereas, therefore and consequently inside complete spoken sentences. Your task is to listen for the whole message, not just the connector, then type the sentence accurately. This builds the listening skill you need when formal linking words are spoken quickly inside lessons, talks and exam-style recordings.

The checker ignores punctuation, but the model answer still shows commas and full stops so you can notice how these connectors work in writing. Pay attention to contractions, weak forms, final consonants and multi-word chunks such as as a result. At B2, accuracy means recognising the relationship between ideas, keeping the correct word order, and spelling key words such as practised and enrol in a standard British form while accepting common alternatives.
