Linking Words Dictation: Reason, Purpose and Addition

Reason, purpose and addition connectors explain why something happens, what something is for, or what extra point should be added. This B2 dictation trains you to hear reason markers such as because, since, as and because of, purpose phrases such as so that, in order to and so as not to, and addition markers such as moreover, furthermore and in addition. You need to hear the connector and rebuild the complete sentence around it.

This route is useful because many B2 connectors are multi-word phrases. If you hear only so but miss that, or hear because but miss of, the grammar changes. Punctuation is not required for scoring, but pauses can help you hear where clauses begin and end. Listen closely for contractions, weak forms and final consonants around the connector, then type the sentence in a clear British-front form. Replay only after a serious first attempt.
