Be Used To Exercises

A2-B1 Level

Be used to means being comfortable or familiar with something because you have experienced it many times. "I am used to waking up early" means early mornings are normal for me — I don't find them difficult. The structure is: subject + be + used to + -ing form (or a noun). The "to" here is a preposition, not part of an infinitive, which is why it is followed by the -ing form: "She is used to working long hours" (not "She is used to work").

Be used to describes a current state — how things feel right now. You can also use it in the past to describe how things felt before: "I was used to the noise" means the noise didn't bother me at that time. The negative "not used to" means something still feels strange or difficult: "He isn't used to cooking for himself." Don't confuse "be used to" with "used to" (without "be") — "I used to run" is about a past habit, while "I am used to running" means running feels normal to me now. This difference is essential for B1 level examinations.
