Level: A1-A2
easy
⏱️ 5 minutesQuestion 1 of 100 correct so far
Question 1
Choose the correct auxiliary to complete the question.
Where _____ you live?
Context: Wh-question with present simple
🧠Why This Mistake Happens
The Problem:
Spanish doesn't use auxiliary verbs for questions
Linguistic Reason:
Spanish forms questions with intonation and question words, without auxiliary verbs
Spanish Example:
Spanish: Where (you) live?
No auxiliary verb needed in Spanish questions
💡 Quick Rule:
Use DO/DOES for present simple questions, DID for past
Exceptions:
- • Questions with BE: 'Where are you?'
- • Questions with modals: 'Can you help?'
Common Examples:
Where you live?
Where do you live?
Wh-question
What you think?
What do you think?
Opinion question
You like coffee?
Do you like coffee?
Yes/no question
💡 Tips for Success
- •Present simple questions ALWAYS need DO/DOES (except with BE and modal verbs)
- •Use DO with I/you/we/they. Use DOES with he/she/it.
- •Spanish doesn't need auxiliary verbs in questions, but English DOES (that's a hint!)
- •Pattern: Question word + DO/DOES + subject + main verb (infinitive)
