Comparatives & Superlatives Final Test

A2-B2 Level

This final test covers every comparative and superlative structure from A2 to B2 level: short forms (-er/-est), long forms (more/most + adjective), irregular forms (better/ best, worse/worst, further/furthest), as...as comparisons, the more...the more patterns, and degree modifiers (much, far, slightly). The questions increase in difficulty — early questions test basic -er and -est forms, middle questions add irregular and long adjective patterns, and later questions require advanced structures like correlative comparatives.

Treat this as exam practice: read each question carefully, identify the adjective, decide which pattern it needs, and check your spelling. Pay attention to context clues that tell you whether to use a comparative or a superlative — "than" signals a comparative, while "in the class" or "of all" signals a superlative. For "as...as" questions, remember the adjective stays in its base form. For "the more...the more," both halves need "the" + comparative. If you score well on this test, you have a solid foundation in English comparatives ready for Cambridge B1 Preliminary and B2 First examinations.

Quick Rule

comparative (-er / more) + than | superlative (the -est / the most) | as...as | the more...the more

  • 2.This isn't the worst meal I have ever had. (irregular superlative, negative)
  • 3.The earlier we leave, the less traffic we will face. (correlative comparative)
  • 4.Your handwriting is as neat as a printed page. (as...as comparison)
  • 5.Mount Everest is higher than any other mountain in the world. (comparative expressing superlative meaning)
