Question Tags with Have/Has Exercises

B1 Level

Present perfect statements use have or has as helping verbs, and these copy directly into the question tag. "You have finished the report, haven't you?" "She has arrived, hasn't she?" The key is recognising present perfect by its structure: have/has + past participle (finished, arrived, done, been). Unlike past simple, where you need "did," present perfect already has a visible helping verb to copy into the tag.

Match the helping verb to the subject: hasn't goes with he, she, it (third person singular), while haven't goes with I, you, we, they. "He has been here before, hasn't he?" "They have already left, haven't they?" The positive-negative swap rule applies as always — positive statements take negative tags, negative statements take positive tags. "She hasn't called, has she?" (negative to positive). This pattern is particularly useful for checking recent actions and life experiences, which is exactly what present perfect describes in everyday conversation.
