Question Tags: Mixed Practice (Easy) Exercises
B1 Level
This exercise reviews all the basic question tag patterns you have learned: be
verbs (is, are, was, were), do/does/did for simple tenses, have/has
for present perfect, and common modals (can, will, should). Each question tests a
different pattern, helping you practise switching between rules quickly. The focus is
on the fundamental positive-negative swap: positive statements take negative tags, negative
statements take positive tags.
Success in this review requires remembering three key decisions for each sentence: (1) What is the helping verb or main verb? Copy it or add do/does/did. (2) Is the statement positive or negative? Choose the opposite for the tag. (3) What pronoun replaces the subject? Match correctly (John → he, the books → they, I am → aren't I). Working through mixed exercises builds the automatic recognition needed for natural conversation. If you find certain patterns difficult, return to the specific exercises for more targeted practice before attempting the intermediate and advanced mixed reviews.
