Question Tags: Mixed Practice (Intermediate) Exercises
B1 Level
This intermediate review adds complexity to the basic patterns. You will encounter
sentences with there is/are constructions ("There is a meeting, isn't there?"),
imperatives ("Close the door, will you?"), and Let's suggestions
("Let's go, shall we?"). These require recognising special patterns alongside the
standard be/do/have/modal rules. The exercise mixes all types to simulate real
conversation where different structures appear unpredictably.
Pay attention to sentences that look positive but contain hidden negatives. "He never listens" looks affirmative but means "He does not ever listen" — so the tag is positive: "does he?" Similarly, watch for indefinite pronouns: "Someone called" uses "they" in the tag despite being singular. Intermediate-level accuracy requires recognising these special cases while maintaining speed. If you score below 70%, review the specific topics (imperatives, there is/are, negative words, indefinite pronouns) before continuing to the advanced level. This exercise level corresponds closely to Cambridge B1 Preliminary examination expectations for question tag mastery.
