Reported Speech Mixed Easy Exercises
A2-B1 Level
This exercise mixes different types of reported speech at an easy
level designed for A2-B1 learners. You will practise the most common
transformations: present simple to past simple, basic pronoun changes, and simple
commands with "told/asked + to + infinitive." The sentences use everyday vocabulary
and straightforward structures with no complex grammar.
Mixed practice is particularly valuable because in real-life conversations, people use statements, questions, and requests all together — they are not sorted by tense or sentence type. This exercise helps you develop the ability to recognise which transformation to apply based on the original sentence. Is it a statement? Use "said" or "told." A yes/no question? Use "asked if." A WH question? Keep the question word and use "asked." A command? Use "told to." Start here if you have studied the individual tenses separately and now want to practise choosing the right pattern quickly, as you would need to in a real conversation or exam.
