There Is / There Are Error Correction

A1-A2 Level

This there is / there are error correction exercise trains learners to proofread complete sentences, not just choose between two short options. The key decision is still the noun phrase after there: singular and uncountable nouns take there is, while plural nouns take there are. In standard written English, this also means avoiding informal plural uses such as there's before a clearly plural noun.

Wrong: "There are some advice in the guide." Correct: "There is some advice in the guide."
Wrong: "Are there any sugar in the cupboard?" Correct: "Is there any sugar in the cupboard?"

Some sentences are already correct, so do not change every line automatically. First identify the noun phrase: a problem, two problems, some information, no chairs, or any homework. Then decide whether the sentence needs is, are, isn't, aren't, Is there, or Are there.
