Time Prepositional Phrases Exercises

Time prepositional phrases are fixed expressions that show punctuality, urgency, temporary situations, waiting periods, and long-term results. Learners choose between phrases such as on time, in time, at once, at the moment, for the time being, in the meantime, from time to time, and in the long run. These phrases are not built word by word each time; they work as complete units, so the best answer depends on the whole sentence.

The most important contrast is on time versus in time. Use on time when something is punctual, not late, or completed by the required time: "The meeting started on time." Use in time when something happens early enough before a deadline or danger: "The firefighters arrived in time." Other phrases mark different meanings: at once means immediately, at the moment means currently, for the time being means temporarily, and in the meantime means during a waiting period.
