Unless means 'if … not', so the verb after it is usually positive: unless the ferry is cancelled means if the ferry isn't cancelled. Decide whether the result happens when something happens or when it doesn't. Use the present simple after both, even for the future. For a feeling caused by something not happening, use if … not.
