Used To - Mixed Practice (Easy) Exercises

B1 Level

This exercise mixes all four structures: used to (past habits and states), be used to (current familiarity), get used to (becoming familiar), and would (past repeated actions). At this easy level, the context clues are clear and direct, helping you identify which structure is needed. Look for time references: past clues like "when I was young" point to used to or would, while present clues like "now" or "these days" point to be used to or get used to.

To choose the right structure, ask two questions. First: is this about the past or the present? Past situations need "used to" or "would." Present situations need "be used to" or "get used to." Second: if it is about the past, is this a state or an action? States (be, have, know, like, live) need "used to" only — not "would." Actions can use either "used to" or "would." With practice, choosing the correct structure becomes automatic. This type of mixed exercise is common in Cambridge B1 Preliminary examinations.
