Verb To Have Negatives and Questions
A1 Level
The verb to have has two common present forms for negatives and questions.
With simple have, use the helping verbs do and does:
"I don't have a car", "He doesn't have any pets", "Do you have a pencil?", and "Does she have
a brother?" After do, does, don't, or doesn't, the main
verb is always have, not has.
With have got, negatives and questions use have or has directly: "I haven't got a car", "He hasn't got any pets", "Have you got a pencil?", and "Has she got a brother?" Both styles are common, especially in British English. At A1, focus on two choices in each sentence: choose do/don't/have/haven't for I, you, we, and they; choose does/doesn't/has/hasn't for he, she, and it. In questions, put the helping verb or have/has before the subject, then read the object after the gap.
