Articles Dictation: A, An, The and Zero Article

Articles dictation trains you to hear whether a speaker uses a, an, the, or no article before a noun and to type the complete A2 sentence accurately, linking each short spoken form or meaningful absence to indefinite, definite, and general reference in everyday English. These small words are often unstressed, so they can be difficult to notice in normal speech. Listen especially for a before consonant sounds, an before vowel sounds, and the when both speaker and listener can identify the noun.

This exercise also includes zero-article patterns, where no article is spoken before meal names, general plurals, and some places used for their normal purpose. Punctuation is not scored, but every spoken article and the original word order matter. Short examples such as a uniform and an hour remind you that sound, not the first written letter, controls a or an.
