Gerunds and Infinitives: Common Verbs (Part 2)

A2-B1 Level

This exercise continues building your knowledge of gerund and infinitive patterns with ten more common verbs. You will practise five more gerund verbs: consider, keep, imagine, recommend, and miss. For example, "I'm considering changing jobs" and "She keeps forgetting her keys." You will also practise five infinitive verbs: offer, promise, learn, manage, and pretend. For example, "He offered to help" and "They managed to finish on time."

Some of these verbs have useful patterns to remember. "Keep" + gerund means "continue repeatedly" — "He keeps calling me" (again and again). "Manage" + infinitive means "succeed in doing something difficult" — "I managed to pass the exam" (I succeeded despite difficulty). "Pretend" + infinitive describes acting as if something is true — "She pretended to be asleep." Learning these meaning connections helps you remember the correct form. These verbs appear frequently in Cambridge B1 Preliminary reading and use of English sections.
