Modal Verbs Final Test

A2-B2 Level

This comprehensive test covers all modal verbs from A2 to B2 level. You will be tested on basic modals like "can," "must," and "should" (A2), intermediate modals including "could," "may," "might," "would," and "shall" (B1), and advanced topics such as deduction, modal perfects, and modal passives (B2). The questions are arranged in order of difficulty, starting with easier items and becoming progressively harder — so don't worry if the final questions feel challenging.

To do well, remember the key differences that examiners test most often: mustn't (prohibition — "you are not allowed") vs don't have to (no obligation — "you have a choice"), should (advice) vs must (strong obligation), and could for past ability vs suggestions vs polite requests. At B2 level, you need to know modal perfects ("should have done," "must have done") and modal passives ("can be done," "must be completed"). This test helps you identify which areas need more practice, so pay attention to which questions you find most difficult. Completing this assessment is excellent preparation for Cambridge B2 First or IELTS exams.
