Past Simple Irregular Verbs Part 3
B1 Level
This third set of irregular verbs covers less common but still important
forms that appear regularly in B1-level texts and conversations. You will practise verbs
like "forgive" → "forgave," "lend" → "lent," "shake" → "shook," and "steal" → "stole."
These verbs come up frequently in storytelling, news articles, and description of past
events. Knowing them helps you express yourself with greater range and precision.
At B1 level, you are expected to handle a wider variety of irregular verbs beyond the basic high-frequency ones. Many of these verbs appear in Cambridge B1 Preliminary reading and listening texts, where understanding the past form is essential for comprehension. You may also need them in writing tasks — for example, telling a story or describing an experience. Some of these verbs have past participles that differ from the past simple form: "speak" → "spoke" (simple) vs "spoken" (participle), "steal" → "stole" vs "stolen." For now, focus on the past simple forms. Learning these verbs gives you the vocabulary to discuss a wider range of past experiences and to understand more complex English texts.
