Past Simple Mixed Practice — Easy
A2 Level
This easy mixed practice exercise combines regular and irregular verbs
in simple past simple sentences. You will fill in the correct past form of each verb,
whether it follows the -ed pattern or has an irregular form. The sentences use
everyday vocabulary and clear contexts to help you decide the right answer. This is the
ideal exercise if you have studied regular and irregular verbs separately and now want
to practise using them together.
At A2 level, being able to switch between regular and irregular forms without hesitation is an important step towards fluency. In real conversation, you do not have time to think about whether a verb is regular or irregular — you need to produce the correct past form automatically. This exercise helps you build that speed by presenting both types in random order. If you find yourself pausing to think about certain verbs, those are the ones to review. Focus on the most common verbs first: everyday actions like "go," "eat," "make," "work," "play," and "buy" should become second nature before you move to intermediate and advanced levels.
