Prepositions Dictation: Time and Place

Prepositions dictation helps you hear and type small English words such as in, on, and at when they appear in ordinary sentences about time and place. These words are short and often unstressed, but they tell us whether something happens at a time, on a day, in a month, on a surface, at a point, or in an area. This A2 exercise uses familiar situations such as work, school, a bus stop, a bag, and a garden so that the surrounding words make the preposition meaningful.

Listen for the whole phrase, not only the noun that follows it. For time, hear at nine, on Tuesday, and in August. For place, notice the difference between keys on the table, a person at the bus stop, and books in a bag. Punctuation is not scored, but each spoken word and its order matter.
