Phrasal Verbs Dictation: Daily Routines and Work

Phrasal verbs are verb and particle combinations whose meaning you cannot always guess from the verb alone, and this B1 dictation trains you to hear those chunks as single units inside ordinary sentences. You will listen to routines and workplace situations and type sentences built around get up, set off, get on well with, look after, deal with, run out of and come up with. The task is to reproduce the whole sentence, so the particle never gets lost.

Dictation is useful here because particles are usually unstressed. Words such as of, to and with reduce to very short sounds in fast speech, and learners often hear the main verb but miss what follows it. The checker ignores punctuation and accepts expanded contractions, so I'll and I will are both accepted, as are common British and American spellings. Keep the verb and its particle together: the order you hear is the order to type.
