Reported Speech Dictation: Reported Modal Meanings
B2 Level
English Exercises is teacher-led by Charlie. About the teacher · How content is made
Listen to what the modal says about the reported action. Could can describe ability, might a possibility, should advice and would a future action seen from the report. Had to expresses a requirement in these sentences. Keep any not before the main action, and catch be if the report includes a passive. Modals do not all change in the same way when speech is reported. Here, though, you do not have to make those changes: the speaker gives you the report to transcribe exactly.
