Compound Adjectives - Easy Exercises

B1 Level

Compound adjectives join two or more words to make one description before a noun. In this B1 exercise, you practise common everyday adjectives such as kind-hearted, well-known, old-fashioned, and hard-working. The hyphen helps the reader see that the words work together as one idea: a well-known restaurant is a restaurant that many people know, not a known restaurant that is somehow well.

Many beginner-friendly compounds describe people, jobs, time, or personal qualities. Some forms have accepted closed spellings, such as homemade or hardworking, but the hyphenated form is a clear choice in this practice. Read the noun after the blank, decide which two words create the description, and join them carefully. This exercise builds accuracy with spelling, hyphen placement, and natural adjective phrases. It also helps you notice that one small mark can turn two separate words into a single useful classroom description in real writing. That makes your answers easier for teachers and readers to check.
