Noun Formation Medium Exercises
B2 Level
English Exercises is teacher-led by Charlie. About the teacher · How content is made
At this level, spelling changes become more important. A final -e may be dropped, a consonant may double, and some noun forms are less predictable. The words around the gap tell you that a noun is needed, but vocabulary knowledge tells you which noun is natural. Always check whether the noun should be singular or plural and whether it names a person, thing, action, quality, or abstract idea. These B2 exercises are strong preparation for mixed word formation tasks. If two noun forms seem possible, choose the one that names the exact idea in the sentence, not only the one with a familiar ending.
Quick Rule
base word + B2 noun suffix, with spelling changes where the word family requires them
- 1.ABLE -> ability: the ability to learn
- 2.FRIEND -> friendship: a close friendship
- 3.DECIDE -> decision: a difficult decision
- 4.PRESS -> pressure: under pressure
