Review questions often include distractors, so read beyond the blank. A sentence may mention people but still need whichever if the people form a shortlist. A sentence may include time words but need wherever if the blank describes a location. However needs special care because however, as a connector is not the same as however difficult or however carefully. Negative results and warnings still follow the usual categories: "Whatever they offered, we did not accept" is about an open thing or action; "Whoever calls, do not share the password" is about people in a warning context. Read the full clause before deciding.
