Adverbs Of Frequency Intermediate Word Order Exercises

A2-B1 Level

Intermediate frequency-adverb word order adds objects, place phrases, and time expressions to the basic pattern. The adverb still normally sits before the main verb, or after be, but the sentence may be longer: "They usually eat lunch together" or "He rarely drinks coffee in the morning." The extra words should not pull the frequency adverb away from its natural position near the verb.

Start by finding the main verb. Then place the frequency adverb in relation to that verb before arranging the rest of the sentence. Objects normally stay after the verb, and place or time phrases usually come later. With be, the frequency adverb comes after the verb and before the adjective or complement: "My sister is rarely busy." This A2-B1 practice helps you keep longer sentences organised without losing the core adverb-position rule. It also builds the habit of checking the verb group before arranging the extra information around it.

  • 2.My sister is rarely busy.
