Basic SVO Word Order Exercises

A2 Level

Basic SVO word order is the foundation of clear English statements. The normal pattern is subject + verb + object: "She likes coffee", "They live here", and "He reads books." The subject is the person or thing doing the action, the verb is the action or state, and the object receives the action. Many learner mistakes happen when the object moves before the verb or when extra words break this simple order.

This A2 practice keeps the sentences short so you can build the habit first. Start by finding who or what the sentence is about. Then place the verb directly after the subject. If there is an object, put it after the verb. Time and place phrases can be added later, but simple SVO order comes first. When the sentence sounds natural, check capital letters and punctuation. This pattern prepares you for longer word-order work such as SVOMPT, adverb position, and questions.
