Question Formation Easy Word Order Exercises

A2 Level

Easy question word order practises the basic patterns for yes/no questions and simple wh-questions. In many questions, the helper verb or be comes before the subject: "Do you like coffee?", "Is he happy?", and "Are they students?" This is different from statement order, where the subject usually comes first. Question marks, capital letters, and the first word are important clues.

For yes/no questions in the present simple, use do or does before the subject: "Do they work here?" With be, move am/is/are before the subject: "Are you ready?" For simple wh-questions, put the question word first, then the helper verb, then the subject: "Where do you live?" This A2 page keeps the questions short so you can learn the question pattern before moving to longer tenses and embedded questions. It also reinforces the link between word order and meaning, because one moved verb can turn a statement into a question.
