Question Formation Intermediate Word Order Exercises
B1 Level
Intermediate question word order extends basic question formation into more
tenses and longer sentences. You may need present simple, past simple, present perfect, past
continuous, or modal questions. The core pattern is still the same: put the question word first
when there is one, then the helper verb, then the subject, then the main verb or verb phrase.
Examples include "Where does she go to work?" and "What were you doing yesterday evening?"
The challenge is choosing the correct helper and keeping the main verb form correct. Present simple uses do/does, past simple uses did, continuous forms use am/is/are/was/were, and perfect forms use have/has. After do, does, or did, the main verb stays in the base form. Longer objects, place phrases, and time phrases come after the main verb group. This B1 practice builds accuracy across tenses before advanced subject and embedded questions.
