Past Perfect Dictation: Earlier Past Events
B1 Level
English Exercises is teacher-led by Charlie. About the teacher · How content is made
Listen for had before the earlier action. The sentence looks back from one past moment to something that happened before it. Another clause or phrase gives you the later point, often with before, when or by the time. Had may be short and quiet, so do not rely only on the main action word. Follow both events, then keep their verb forms exactly as spoken. You are hearing the order in which things happened, but you should not rearrange the sentence into that time order.
