Multiple Changes Basic Exercises
B2 Level
Multiple changes basic introduces word formation answers that often need more
than one step. A base word may need a prefix and a suffix, or it may become an adjective before
becoming an adverb. Examples include unsuccessful, uncomfortable,
thoughtlessly, and harmless. Some questions are simpler, so the safest method
is to follow the sentence rather than force every answer into one fixed structure.
Begin by asking what the gap does in the sentence. If it describes a noun, you probably need an adjective. If it describes an action, you probably need an adverb. If the sentence has a negative meaning, consider a prefix such as un- or dis-. Then check whether the word also needs a suffix. This B2 practice helps bridge the gap between single-suffix exercises and harder mixed word formation tasks where several changes happen at once. A final reread is useful because the completed word must sound right as well as contain the correct prefix or suffix.
