Verb Formation Exercises
B1-B2 Level
Verb formation practice asks you to make verbs from nouns or adjectives. Common
patterns include the prefix en-, the suffix -en, and verb endings such as
-ify and -ise. In British English, -ise is the usual front-facing
spelling here, while many exercises also accept the American -ize variant. Examples
include enlarge, enable, simplify, organise, and
strengthen.
The grammar around the gap often shows that a verb is needed. The word to, a modal verb, or a subject followed by a gap can all be clues. Check whether the verb should be in its base form, past form, or another form required by the sentence. Some answers need a spelling change before the ending is added. These B1-B2 exercises help you see how English builds verbs and how verb formation connects with meaning, tense, and sentence structure. After forming the verb, check whether the sentence needs the base form, an infinitive, or a past form.
