Past Continuous Dictation: Events and Background Actions
B1 Level
English Exercises is teacher-led by Charlie. About the teacher · How content is made
Listen for the story event and the activity around it. The background does not always come first: when or while may introduce either part at the beginning. A past simple verb can name what someone noticed or what happened, while was or were plus ing shows an activity in progress. Some sentences contain more than two verbs, and were can describe a state without an ing form. Keep the words actually spoken rather than forcing every clause into one two-tense pattern.
