Cleft Sentences Dictation: The Reason Why Clefts
B2 Level
English Exercises is teacher-led by Charlie. About the teacher · How content is made
Hear the sentence in two parts: what needs explaining, then the explanation itself. The reason why introduces the event, and is or was that connects it to the cause. The verbs in the two parts need not share the same tense. Keep each one as spoken. Although English can express a reason with because, that is not a reason to rewrite the recording. I'd replay around the central is or was if the sentence feels long. Keep why, that and the full explanation where you hear them.
