Inversion Dictation: Hardly and No Sooner
B2 Level
English Exercises is teacher-led by Charlie. About the teacher · How content is made
Hear the opening expression and its later connector as a pair. Hardly, scarcely and barely go with when in these past sequences; no sooner goes with than. They show how quickly a second event follows the first. Between them, listen for had before the subject and a past participle after it. It is easy to recognise the story and miss one small grammar word. Give both clauses a full listen, then write the sequence without replacing the formal pattern with an ordinary after sentence.
