What is the causative structure in English?
The causative structure expresses that someone arranges for another person or service to do something for them. Instead of doing the action yourself, you cause someone else to do it. The most common pattern is "have/get + object + past participle". For example: "I had my car repaired" means a mechanic repaired it for me.
Have + Object + Past Participle
Formal, neutral arrangement
"I had my car serviced."
Get + Object + Past Participle
Informal, implies effort
"I got my hair done."
Have + Person + Bare Infinitive
Authority/instruction
"I had my assistant book the flight."
Get + Person + To-Infinitive
Persuasion/convincing
"I got my friend to help me move."
