What are containers and partitives in English?
Partitives are words and phrases used to express a specific quantity or portion of something. They are essential in English because many nouns — such as water, advice, and furniture — are uncountable and cannot be directly preceded by a number or "a/an". Partitives solve this by adding a countable unit before the uncountable noun: "a glass of water", "a piece of advice", "a set of furniture".
